When your child takes up a new sport, it’s the beginning of new relationships for them and for you if you decide to get involved.
Top 5 Tips
1. One of the keys to children persisting with and being successful in sport is positive parenting involvement.
2. You may like to become a coach or manager, but just being on the sideline supporting your child is great. (Remember to model good sportsmanship!)
3. If your child shows talent, be careful not to get pushy. Monitor and develop their interest and skill in a constructive way.
4. Overemphasis, overtraining or specialisation too early on can have a detrimental effect and your child may drop out of sport.
5. The best way to foster a child’s talent is to nurture a positive, fun environment for them to continue to develop their skills.
