Nutritious breakfasts

Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Ben’s choice for kick-starting his family’s day? Oats, in the form of muesli and porridge.

BIRCHER MUESLI
1C oats
1 ½ C apple juice
¼ C yoghurt
1 grated apple
2TBsp chopped pear
1Tbsp blueberries
1tsp barley flakes
1Tbsp walnuts
BIRCHER MUESLI
1. Place oats in a bowl and add enough apple juice to cover
2. Cover and leave overnight in the fridge
3. In the morning, finish with yoghurt and grated apple
4. Finish with chopped pear, blueberries, barley flakes and walnuts.
PORRIDGE
1C rolled oats
2C milk or water
Pinch of salt
PORRIDGE
1. Place oats and liquid into a pot
2. Bring to the boil and then turn down to a very low simmer
3. Cook for approximately 10mins, stirring to ensure it doesn’t burn.

Dark chocolate
Cinnamon
Sunflower seeds
Pumpkin seeds
Peaches
Boysenberries
Figs
Sultanas
Brazil nuts
Poppy seeds
Almonds
Honey
Coconut sugar
Maple syrup
Agave syrup
TOPPINGS
1. Spoon the porridge into individual bowls
2. Add any combination of toppings and personalise them, get the kids to design their own porridge topping.
