It can be hard to find the time to eat together as a family but there are plenty of reasons why it’s great to gather around the table as often as possible. Your kids will tend to eat a wider variety of foods and have better table manners for starters!
Here Ben and Jude whip up a family favourite – pulled pork on homemade sliders, with kid-friendly coleslaw.
PORK SLIDERS |

MILK BREAD 2/3C milk 1 ½ C plain flour 1 ½ C bakers/strong four 3tsp yeast 1/2C water 2 eggs 2tsp Salt Flour for rolling Melted butter Sesame seeds |
MILK BREAD Dissolve yeast in water to activate In the mixer add both flours, eggs, yeast mixture, milk and salt and mix with a dough hook until smooth, approximately 10 minutes Leave to prove in a bowl covered for at least 1 hour in a warm place. Knock back the dough by giving it a light knead and then cut into rough potions Roll into buns and place on a greased lined tray. Sprinkle with a little extra water and cover to prove in a warm place for 20 mins Once they have proved, brush the buns with melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds Bake at 220°C 10-15 mins |
PORK 1 pork belly 1/4C salt |
PORK Sprinkle the pork belly with salt and leave in the fridge to cure for 6 hours. Once it is cured, rinse off any excess salt and slow roast for 6hours at 120°C Finish on bbq to crisp or grill in oven Allow to cool then tear up the meat and finely chop the crackling |
COLESLAW 1/2 cabbage 2 carrots 1/4C golden raisins Fresh coriander and chives 3 Tbsp vinaigrette or mayonnaise |
COLESLAW Shave carrot and cabbage on mandolin or use grater Mix in fresh herbs and raisins Mix in vinaigrette until the coleslaw is fully coated |
TO SERVE Pork Slaw Buns Butter Mayonnaise Mustard Gherkins |
TO SERVE: 1. Cut buns in half and spread with your favourite condiments 2. Fill with pulled pork and coleslaw 3. Enjoy! |
