Bouncing eggs

Bouncing eggs? Is that possible?! Your child will marvel at this scientific transformation.

What you’ll need:

– One egg

– Glass

– Vinegar

Instructions:

1. Fill glass with vinegar.

2. Drop egg into glass; bubbles will start to form around the shell.

3. Take the egg out after 24 hours.

4. Now test to see if it bounces. (NOTE: Don’t drop it from too high up or it will break.)

What’s the science?

Decalcification happens when the vinegar (an acid) reacts with the calcium carbonate in the egg shell, and dissolving it. Only the membrane of the egg is left.
