Did you know you can bend water without touching it? Strange, but true!
What you’ll need:
– A balloon
– Dry hair
– A narrow stream of running tap water
1. Turn on the tap on so the water comes out in a narrow stream.
2. Rub the blown-up balloon on your head for a few minutes.
3. Slowly move the balloon towards the stream of water without actually touching it.
What’s the science?
Positive and negative charges attract. Negatively charged particles jump from your hair to the balloon when they rub together. These extra electrons on the balloon now make it negatively charged. The water has both positive protons and negative electrons, so it is neutral. The negatively charged electrons on the balloon attracts the positively charged protons from the water to make the water bend because positive and negative attract.
